A MESSAGE TO CROSS PLAINS

runninng
Sewer Infrastructure & Responsible Growth

Did You Know? In 2024, Cross Plains had an opportunity to extend sewer service through downtown Cross Plains and along the Highway 25 corridor using reportedly $1 million in grant funding. Cross Plains had been allocated $500,000 for the project, and an additional $500,000 reportedly became available after Orlinda declined its portion of the funding. The Cross Plains City Commission ultimately rejected moving forward with the sewer project by a 3–2 vote. I believe that was a significant missed opportunity for Cross Plains. Why I Support Sewer Downtown I support extending sewer service through downtown Cross Plains—not because I want uncontrolled growth, but because I want responsible, controlled growth. Our downtown businesses deserve modern infrastructure. There are existing wastewater and drainage concerns downtown that need to be addressed, and simply ignoring those problems isn’t a long-term solution. Sewer infrastructure can strengthen our existing businesses, help protect our historic downtown, and give Cross Plains more—not less—control over the kind of growth we allow in the future. Infrastructure does not dictate growth. Good leadership, planning and zoning do. What I Will Do I won’t promise voters that I can recover the grant funding that was lost in 2024. I don’t know that I can, and I won’t make a campaign promise I can’t guarantee. What I can promise is that I will work to find another opportunity. If elected, I will aggressively pursue state and federal grant funding to extend sewer infrastructure through downtown Cross Plains and along the Highway 25 corridor. My focus will be on grant funding—not placing a new debt burden on the citizens of Cross Plains. We can’t change the vote that happened in 2024. But we can learn from it. And when the next opportunity comes along, I want Cross Plains to be ready.

WHAT I VALUE ABOUT CROSS PLAINS

The People
Cross Plains is more than a place on a map. It is families, neighbors, volunteers, business owners, first responders, educators, and people who choose to invest their time and energy in this community.

The Character
Growth does not have to mean losing what makes a community distinctive. Cross Plains can move forward while preserving the small-town character, relationships, and quality of life that brought many of us here in the first place.

The Opportunity Ahead
The decisions we make today will help determine what Cross Plains looks like years from now. With thoughtful planning, responsible leadership, and an open dialogue with residents, we can build on what works while preparing wisely for what comes next.

“We don’t have to choose between protecting what we love about Cross Plains and preparing for its future. We can do both.”
— David Ridings
